September 2019 Construction Update
Summer is winding down in rural Virginia, students have returned to their classes and the days and nights are growing shorter. With the tailwinds of some great summer weather , we have made great progress on our fiber construction project. Soon, we will have our 1,000th BARC Connects customer installed with high-speed internet service! We have come a long way since overcoming the delays we faced at the outset of our project.
Mainline construction in the BARC Electric service area for phase 1 is now complete. We are focused on continuing to build service drops and connect BARC members in these areas. Phase 1 mainline construction in the remaining Dominion areas is continuing (more details provided below). If you are not yet signed up yet and want service, there is still time to get in on the promotional offer for a free service drop with a $100 prepaid installation fee. You can go to our website http://shop.barcconnects.net or call 800-846-2272 and one of our Customer Service team members will be happy to assist you.
We continue to expand our network to connect more customers using two separate construction firms as well as our own BARC crews. Below is a list of all the construction we have ongoing:
Remaining Phase 1:
Route 11 North: Construction is underway now (ElectriCom).
Downtown Lexington: Will follow the Providence Hill build (ElectriCom).

Goose Creek: Fiber construction in this area began on July 8th. Service drops are being pulled now to residents who have signed up for service (BARC crews).
Brownsburg Turnpike: Make ready construction for this area is now complete and construction to pull fiber into the area has started (BARC crews).

And we are very excited that Phase 2 construction is planned to start September 9th with our other contractor, MJ Electric! This includes additional residents in Rockbridge County in the Big Spring Road/Turkey Hill Road/Bean’s Bottom area, as well as Route 60 west of Kerr’s Creek and Bratton’s Run and residents and businesses in the greater Millboro area. These customers are also eligible for the free service drop promotion if they sign up while construction is ongoing.
