COVID-19 Update: March 23, 2020

To our BARC Electric and BARC Connects Consumers:

We hope this communication finds you healthy, well and safe. Amid this COVID-19 pandemic, we want to you updated on what we at BARC are doing to ensure business continuity in providing reliable electric and broadband services to our consumers. Today, Governor Northam issued the closure of non-essential businesses beginning at midnight March 24, 2020. As a utility, electric service and broadband service are considered essential.

At this time of uncertainty, please know that we are doing all we can to protect our staff and the community from spreading the virus while continuing to provide the reliable services you expect from BARC. We ask everyone to follow the guidance from the CDC and our governor in practicing social distancing, stay at home if you can, and wash your hands and practice good hygiene.

BARC Electric crews will continue ensuring we provide reliable electricity to our consumers. We ask the public to not interact with our crews if they are out working on the electric system or responding to power outages and respect the request of our federal and state governments to practice social distancing. This is in the best interest of public health safety to prevent potential infection of COVID-19.

Our BARC Connects staff is continuing to work bringing broadband service to our communities in a safe manner. We are working with our staff and contractors to ensure we are not posing risks to public health. If our technicians must come to your home to install or fix your service, please tell them if anyone in the house is feeling ill. While they are in your home, we require that you keep at least six feet of separation at all times.

As previously mentioned, BARC’s offices are closed to anyone who is not a BARC employee. We have provided methods for account management, paying your bill and reporting outages on our websites and, as well as on our Facebook page.

We will get through this together. The best thing we all can do now is to work together to stop the spread of COVID-19 by practicing social distancing and proper hygiene. Our priority is maintaining best practices to ensure good health for our staff and the communities we serve. May you and your loved ones stay well and healthy.
